What is the eligibility criteria for B.Optom?
Eligibility for the B.Optom course is +2 with Physics, Chemistry and Biology / Mathematics, with a minimum of 50% in each subject including English.
What is the eligibility criteria for M.Optom?
A 4-year full-time degree in optometry from any recognised university.
Is NEET required to join the course?
No, NEET is not required for optometry courses.
Who is an optometrist?
An optometrist is an eye-care professional who can diagnose eye conditions, give glass prescriptions and manage with non-surgical therapies.
Who is an ophthalmologist?
An ophthalmologist is an eye surgeon, who specialises in the eye after finishing MBBS.
Is an optometrist allowed to do eye surgeries?
No. Only ophthalmologists do eye surgeries.
Does a graduate become an eye doctor after finishing optometry?
No. An eye doctor has to do MBBS and then postgraduation in ophthalmology.
Do students of VIOR get clinical exposure?
Yes. Students get clinical exposure from the first year of study in the refraction lab and community eye-care activities.
Where will students do the internship?
Internship will be in leading eye hospitals in rotational postings.
Are campus interviews held in VIOR?
Yes. Every year leading companies like Bausch + Lomb, Titan and Lenskart conduct placement drives in VIOR.
Do students need to buy any books?
Libraries at our centres contain the required books.
Are bank loans available for this course?
Yes. Educational loans are available through banks, and the institute provides the necessary documentation.
Are scholarships available for the course?
The institute provides the necessary documents to apply for government and other private scholarships.
Are hostel facilities available?
Many private hostel options are available nearby. The admissions team can help you choose.
Do students have to wear a uniform?
Yes. Students are required to adhere to the dress code.
Are optometry courses available by distance or part-time mode?
No. Optometry is a healthcare profession dealing directly with patients. All courses are full-time with clinical exposure.
What may graduates study after finishing B.Optom?
Clinical M.Optom or research-based PhD options are available in India and abroad.
What are the career options after finishing the course?

Should graduates register to start a private practice?
Yes. Registration has been made mandatory as per the NCAHP Act 2021.
Will graduates be able to register in the government employment exchange?
Yes. The courses are from the state government's medical university.
